Cookie Policy
Last updated: 7 July 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies Hosteiland ("Hosteiland", "we", "us") places when you visit our website, and how you can manage your preferences. We keep things as simple as possible - if anything is unclear, our contact page has all the ways to reach us.
Cookies we actually use
When you first visit our site, the cookie banner asks you to choose between "Accept all" and "Only essential". Below is exactly which cookies fall into each category today - not hypothetical examples, but what our website currently places on your device.
We do not currently place any analytics cookies. If we start using an analytics tool in the future, we will list the specific cookies here and ask for your consent before they are placed.
We do not currently place any marketing or advertising cookies. If that changes, we will update this page with the specific cookies used and ask for your consent first.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your computer, tablet or phone when you visit it. They let the site remember information about your visit - such as your language preference, whether you're logged in, or which pages you looked at - so that using the site again is quicker and more convenient.
Cookies are not the only technology used for this purpose. Similar techniques, such as local storage or pixels, work in a comparable way. For simplicity, we refer to all of these collectively as "cookies" in this policy.
Why Hosteiland uses cookies
Right now, we only use one cookie-like piece of storage: to remember the choice you made in our cookie banner. We do not currently run analytics or marketing cookies of any kind.
Our cookie banner still offers a choice between "Accept all" and "Only essential", because we want the option to add analytics or marketing cookies in the future without changing how consent works. If we do, those cookies will only be placed once you've given consent, and we will update this page first to list them by name.
Legal basis and your consent
Under the GDPR (AVG) and the Dutch Telecommunications Act, we only place non-essential cookies - analytics and marketing - after you have given your consent through the cookie banner. Essential cookies do not require consent because they are necessary for the site to operate.
You are always free to decline non-essential cookies, and doing so will not prevent you from using the core functionality of our website.
Managing or withdrawing your consent
You can set your preference at any time using the cookie banner that appears when you first visit our site. If you'd like to change a choice you already made, simply clear your browser's cookies for our domain - the banner will appear again the next time you visit, letting you choose afresh.
Most browsers also let you manage or delete cookies directly through their settings, including blocking cookies from specific sites or being notified whenever a cookie is set. Bear in mind that blocking essential cookies may cause parts of our website to stop working correctly.
How long do we keep cookies?
Our one cookie-consent storage item has no automatic expiry - it stays in your browser's local storage until you clear your browser data yourself. If we introduce analytics or marketing cookies in the future, we will state their exact retention periods here.
